Pilot in development
Expressions of interest welcome

Called In. You might be the one who notices.

Some children are rarely seen outside their own home. Engineers and tradespeople go into more family homes than almost anyone.

We’re developing a simple, free way to help them know what to do if something feels wrong for a child.

What it isA 10-minute briefing and a pocket card with a QR code, so every worker knows who to call.

What it isn’tInvestigating families. Workers notice and pass it on: 999 in an emergency, the police on 101, or the local council’s children’s social care.

Where it standsWe’re starting small, with a few local heating and maintenance firms. Partners, funding and a launch date will be announced once confirmed.

Run a local trade business, or work in safeguarding? Help us shape it.

Free. 10 minutes. Peace of mind for your team, and recognition as one of the first businesses to help shape it.

How the pilot would work

What the pilot is for

To find out whether small, local heating and maintenance businesses will adopt a simple, free safeguarding routine, and to use what we learn to press for a national safeguarding standard for trades that visit homes.

The briefing pack we plan to test

  • A 10-minute briefing a business can give at the start of the working day, using a one-page script or short video.
  • A pocket card and QR guide for the van: a phone-friendly page covering what to look out for and verified reporting contacts.
  • A one-page employer procedure with a named safeguarding contact, so no worker is left deciding alone.
  • A short feedback form, to judge whether it helps before anything goes further.

The aim is that it costs workers nothing, with employer or sponsor funding, and adds as little as possible to their day.

Recognise and report. Never investigate.

Workers would not question families, search homes or decide what is happening. Speak For Them would coordinate awareness and development. We would not receive or handle reports about individual children.

How we’d start

First, test the pack with around 10 tradespeople. Then shape a pilot with 3 to 5 heating and maintenance companies. Independent specialist safeguarding review comes first, before anything is used with workers.

What already exists

Some safeguarding training for home-visiting workers already exists, mostly as individual courses or through large companies. Called In explores what works for small, local businesses, built into how they already work.
